Today I hooked up a scan tool and pulled some sensor readings, hopefully this will help any of you that have more knowledge than myself. In fact when it is cold outside it seems to happen even at light acceleration. If I run 87 octane fuel I get spark knock at medium to high acceleration, the knock is even worse the colder the ambient temperature. Before I go into all the data I have to help diagnose this problem let me explain the symptoms in more detail. I managed to go through some TSB's and found one that fit my problem (Article N. I was sure it had something to do with carbon build up, but I have done all I can with out spending A LOT of money to clean it out. For quite some time I have had to run higher octane fuel to keep from getting a spark knock at medium to high acceleration. I have a 1997 F-150 4.6L (VIN engine code 6) with 159100 miles on it.
